Three Olympic College staff members have recently been recognized for their positive impact at OC and on their fellow employees.
The Make a Difference Award is an acknowledgement of the outstanding performance by individual Olympic College employees. It is given out four times a year to those who go above and beyond what their job calls for.
Thomas Oliver, executive assistant to Administration Services, is the chair of the Make a Difference Award panel. He sends out reminders to vote and gets things organized, helping the process to flow smoothly.
“A committee scores them and then averages out the votes and then picks the three with the highest amount of nominations,” said Oliver.
Linda Wells, fiscal technician, was nominated for the award due to her willingness to step up and take action.
“I deal with third party stuff; navy, army, receivables, parking citations, etc” said Wells.
Also, though, when things were getting busy in the Cashier’s office, she stepped up and helped out.
Diana Lake, director of Procurement Services, is a major factor in making the move into the new Humanities Building.
“I purchase and oversee supplies and equipment for the college,” said Lake.
She has to keep track of where orders are and make sure that everything gets to where it is supposed to go.
Susan Tollefson, director of Running Start, was chosen, according to the committee, for supporting low-income students and for bridging the distance between the college and K-12 schools in the area all with a positive attitude and team spirit.
“I am the person who directs the Running Start Program,” said Tollefson.
The receipents of the award are presented a certificate with the reason of why they were awarded and a two hundred dollar check by the president’s council.
“It was very nice and I felt honored and to be acknowledged like that made me feel like I am doing a good job,” said Lake.
“I felt honored, surprised, and humbled,” said Tollefson.
