Forward Cassie Brown has played soccer in Washington, Missouri and Utah.

The Olympic College Rangers women’s soccer team is turning some heads within the league.

Much of the Rangers success thus far is largely due to one of the team’s silent leaders: Cassie Brown.

“She is not a designated team captain, she is more of a silent leader, when she steps up everyone else does too,” said assistant coach Ryan Moss. “She has D1 experience and expects a lot of herself and everyone respects that.”

Brown has been playing soccer for 16 years, and graduated from South Kitsap in 2006.
Brown is a major asset to the team because of the character, maturity and experience she brings to the team.

After Brown graduated from high school she played her freshmen season at South East Missouri State. Playing soccer at a Division One level, Brown played against some of the top schools in the nation. While she played there, her team won the division, but on the final game of the regular season she tore her ACL and had to sit out the playoffs.

“It was a good experience to play away from home, it mainly taught me discipline,” said Brown. “We had to practice early, I don’t remember how early, but it was early and we couldn’t be late.”

After her freshman season in Missouri, Brown transferred to Utah State where she tried out for the soccer team there and made it. The coach said her ACL wasn’t strong enough to play, however. After finishing a year at Utah State, Brown decided to head back to Washington and attend OC.

“I was homesick, I had been to two other states and neither really worked out,” said Brown.

Brown has her associates’ degree and is currently in the physical therapist assistant program at OC. She said she enjoys the challenges and experiences that come along with the program.

“Ever since I was 13 and hurt my knee I have wanted to do it, I liked it,” said Brown.

Brown said she is excited to continue a successful season at OC and she believes that this team has the drive to go far this season.

“We all get along well and we all have heart,” said Brown. “We play hard all the time.”
