Sophomore Felitia Buss pitches from the mound at the game against Everett Community College May 11.

For the fourth straight season the Rangers clinched a birth to the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges tournament in Portland. Because the Rangers finished the season in fourth place in the NWAACC North division, they have to play one of the top teams; Wenatchee Valley.

The Rangers played Wenatchee Valley earlier this season and lost the game 3-19, but the Rangers have come a long way since that game.

“They might be sitting back on their heels (we have been catching teams off-guard) for two years,” said Cabato. “We need to play clean solid softball and keep up our energy.”

Even though the Rangers had a small losing streak of four games, the losses came to second-place Bellevue College and third-place Everett Community College.

Though Olympic College did lose, Cabato wasn’t too upset with the outcome since the Rangers played well and lost by an average of just two runs to the high powered teams.

“We played solid defense and took (Everett) to extra innings and lost by just one run to a good team,” said Cabato. “And games like this in the NWAACC can go either way.”

After the close games to Bellevue and Everett the Rangers took on the last-place Edmonds Tritons; a team in which Cabato once jokingly said she would kill herself if they ever lost to.

And both games of the double-header were laughers.

Everyone on the Rangers was hitting the ball. Ronni Adkins hit a home run for the Rangers in the first game and the Rangers fairly easily beat the Tritons in each game.

“If feels good,” said Cabato. “We hit solid and had the ability to hit runs in. That’s always good.”

The pounding to the Tritons was definitely a confidence booster for the Rangers, but Wenatchee Valley will be a completely different story. The Rangers will all need to be on their best especially the pitchers.

“Jacqui (Bushor) will need to be at her best, and Felitia (Buss) will to,” said Cabato. “I will need to throw both, and our team needs to hit consistent.”

The Rangers will leave Thursday night and play their first game Friday at 9:30 a.m. against the powerful Wenatchee Valley team.
