The Olympian

Stephanie Wilson

I am a Student Organizer working for Olympic College planning campus events for students.

So far I have spent about six months working on events that the student body as a whole can enjoy.

Although student participation is on the low side, I have experienced growth in involvement. My goal is to get the most students involved with some common denominator.

This school year I have learned that more students will participate when they feel comfortable in the environment and it is something they enjoy.

So to improve the amount of engagement from the student body, I have brought more activities that many students enjoy, like music and competitions that everyone can participate in.

OC used to be the hot spot for college life. Several decades ago OC had students all over the place involved with the many, many athletics and events around campus.

Although most of the dollars were focused on the athletics rather than the academics, it was a great way to experience college and become a part of something bigger.

Students coming from all types of backgrounds and interests came together as one student body to enjoy and participate in events together.

I would love for students to be proud of the college they go to and when they graduate to be proud that they graduated from this school.

To have students be participants in school activities and events and to take away memories  they will have for the rest of their lives is my goal. So when they look back at the college life they can be proud they went to OC and have had a memorable time at the college.

Students should be involved so they can take something more than just a degree from college.

Students can get involved by coming to events hosted at the college. Support the athletics and cheer on the OC teams.

Participate in events in and around the Bremer Student Center by either coming to watch and enjoy or be a part of the event through volunteering or be being a part of the event itself.

Not only can students participate in events but also available is getting involved in student leadership and getting involved in clubs at OC by either joining an existing club or starting up their own.

There are events going on right now that students have paid for through student fees when they pay tuition, yet not many students come to participate in the event and the money goes wasted.

An upcoming event is the baseball tailgate which we have had for previous sporting events. We spend hundreds of student dollars on these and no one shows up.
