Student Appreciation Day will be held at all three Olympic College campuses. Student Appreciation Day is an annual event put on by the Recreation Department to give back to students.
The event in Shelton will be held Tuesday from noon - 2 p.m.
Thursday from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Poulsbo will be celebrating its Student Appreciation Day.
Bremerton’s event is to be held in the Bremer Student Center on Wednesday from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
“Our goal is to make students happy,” said student organizer Stephanie Wilson. “We use student money to provide fun and diverse activities for the students.”
In his third year organizing the event, Recreational Specialist Spencer Stark chose a wide array of activities to please the diverse student body at OC.
There is “no theme,” said Stark, “here’s a bunch of stuff, you do what you want.”
There will be 13 actives including pingpong, sumo wrestling, an obstacle course, baseball and soccer games in the gym, a cartoonist, henna tattoos, a bench press competition and a $1 photo booth.
Most OC clubs will be represented at the event. Students interested in joining a club can talk to a representative and acquire information about signing up or participation.
“Clubs want to recruit people,” said Wilson.
In addition to the events, the OC Culinary Arts Department will be catering a southern-comfort, barbecue style lunch. The first three hundred students to attend will receive a $3 discount on their meal. For those who don’t make it in time the lunch will cost $7.
Music will be provided by KUBE 93 and will start at 11 a.m. after an hour local musician James Hunnicutt will provide entertainment. After Hunnicutt’s performance KUBE 93 will regain the microphone and continue playing music until the event ends.
Throughout the day attendees will receive prizes and giveaways. Limited supplies of athletic cups, OC visors, flying disks and t-shirts will be handed out along with gift certificates from the OC Bookstore, Outback Steak House and Olympic Latte.
Student Banner Driskell said, “We pay for an education; anything other than education is a bonus.”
