The fitness center held its first bench press competition of the year Tuesday. There were seven contestants, each getting 3 attempts at lifting and going from lightest to heaviest in weight. Athletics instructor Mike MacKenzie officiated the event and, before the competition began, informed the contestants of some basic ground rules. Contestants could not arch their back, raise their buttocks, and had to keep their feet flat on the ground while lifting. For the women, Kaerie Leaverton and Marie Marcos, were the winners, with Preston Bennett and Aaron Salo taking the victory on the men’s side. Athletic Specialist Spencer Stark purchased t-shirts and bookstore gift certificates prior to the competition for the winners.
