The Associated Students of Olympic College president resigned his position Tuesday in order to take a new job as regional campaign manager to Congressman Norm Dicks.

Jonathan Bowers was elected as ASOC president in May of 2009 to serve for the academic year 2009 – 2010, leaving only weeks before the newly elected president, Ryan Brown would take over.

“This is an opportunity that I’ve been looking for,” said Bowers. “I didn’t feel like I could put the dedication forth that both of these jobs would need, so I went with the one that better prepares me for my future.”

During his time as president Bowers has worked to increase student involvement on campus.

“It was awesome to see new people get involved,” he said. “But it’s hard to get students involved with the workings of the school.”

Bowers has attended OC for three years, but said he will not be graduating at the end of the quarter due to an advising error.

He has been accepted to the University of Washington Tacoma to study urban studies and plans to be politically active.

“I’ve always been politically inclined and I really enjoy serving people,” said Bowers.
