After starting out the season 4-1, the Rangers have slowed their winning streak to a record of 9-17.
"We started off really hot," said utility player Danny Henigs. "We cooled down as of lately."
Hennigs said after coming out with such a strong start the team let up a little in practice.
Losing players because of grades or injures has also forced the team to use players who haven't played all season to fill new voids on the field.
"I don't care who's not here," said head coach Ryan Parker. "I care about who's here."
Pitcher Keith Kendall, now in his second year with the team, said the difference betwen this year's team and last year's team is the mentality.
"It's the chemistry on the team," said Kendall. "Everyone wants to be here."
Parker said that synergy is important in a sport where you are only as good as your weakest link.
Parker said the Rangers have been lacking in defense all year and have been inconsistent with pitching and hitting.
But despite their shortcomings, their coach said the young team has what it takes to win this season.
"We've beat four playoff teams from last year," Parker said.
Parker said what the team needs is for players like Hennigs and Jerad Munson to step up and be leaders to the rest of the players that look up to them.
