Olympic College students and chaperones braved the winter weather and faced a few injuries to attend an all-day ski trip at Stevens Pass on Feb. 16.
After students paid a $5 fee, OC purchased lift tickets and bus transportation for every student who signed up.
Some students rented their gear at the pass while others like Amy Schuster and Dalton Conner already had their own snowboards and came ready to enjoy an inexpensive day of boarding.
"It is really nice," said Schuster. "A ski trip for $5 is almost too good to be true."
"They should do more trips like this," said Conner. "(OC) should get a ski-bus to go up through here. I think it would be a good investment and might even make money."
Spencer Stark from OC Recreation organized the event and was at OC in the morning to see the students off and make sure everything was going as planned.
The charter bus left OC around 11 a.m. and headed for the Kingston-Edmonds ferry.
During this first leg of the trip, students slept, joked and played card games.
When the bus boarded the ferry, everyone walked around, some using the boat's cafeteria service to eat lunch.
After the ferry landed and the bus reloaded, the students went the rest of the way to Stevens Pass.
The trip was completely comprised of snowboarders with the exception of chaperones Grant and Diane Newman, who intended to go cross-country skiing.
Diane Newman said she thought the trip up to the pass was pleasant because of the bus's great and funny driver or, as he liked to be called, "Executive Coach."
After being cooped up on the bus for three-and-a-half hours, students were released out into the cloudy but dry day. Gear was thrown on, lift tickets were passed out, equipment was rented and students hopped on the chairlifts within an hour of arriving at the pass.
