Love is in the air as Olympic College Student Organizers coordinate a Valentine's Day event in the Bremer Student Center at 1 p.m. for all the victims of Cupid's arrow.
The event is called The Valentine Shine and will have an assortment of music, dating games and refreshments.
Student Organizers Kiki Ayers, Lorielle Hope and Greg Rivers said that they want The Valentine Shine to be successful. Ayers said she hopes this Valentine's Day event will be as popular as October's Halloween Town was.
Ayers did most of the planning for the Shine, Hope worked on putting together fliers with Student Programs and Leadership Development Assistant Christina Waugh with Rivers organizing the event's musical talent.
"The cool thing is that it isn't just one group of people participating in this," Ayers said. "People from all different groups around the campus will be volunteering."
The first game for The Valentine Shine, closely resembling TV's "The Newlywed Game," is called How Well Do you know your Valentine and will take place between 1 and 1:30 p.m.
The game will begin with host Nehral Maliwat calling couples up to the stage. They will then be separated, allowing both members of each couple to be asked a few questions.
There is one catch though. Each person is required to answer the questions as if they were their valentines. The couple answering the most questions accurately will win a date-basket.
Maliwat will return as the host of Match Maker, the Shine's second game. Match Maker also pulls from TV's array of romantic games, this time closely resembling "The Dating Game."
In this game, there is one eligible candidate who must ask three mystery daters personal questions. The candidate must then pick one of the mystery daters based only on the answers they get. They cannot even look at their possible dates.
For the third game, Speed Dating, the Student Organizers already have people interested in participating.
There will be one line of people facing another line of people and each person will have a limited amount of time to have a conversation with the person in front of them. They must do this before the time starts over and they start talking to the next person down the line.
The idea of this game is to meet a lot of people in a short amount of time. If someone has a lot in common with one of the people he or she meets, then a follow-up date might be the answer.
There will also be at least one Valentine's Day cake along with other refreshments for people to enjoy.
"This is a great free event for students," said Ayers. "It is their money that we use so we want them to show up. It is important. I just want student involvement."
