Portland native Arlyn has been performing professionally for 4 years, released 3 albums and received Portland's Female Artist of the Year Award in 2008.
On stage Arlyn exhibits her songwriting, pianist and vocal skills in a blues, jazz and pop mix. Arlyn and her father, Tony Arlyn, are also the co-owners of her exclusive record label, Homeslice Music.
After a performance at a conference in Wenatchee, the leadership team from OC met Arlyn and booked the show for roughly $1,000.
"I think she's wonderful," Student Organizer Lorielle Hope said, "I'm blown away."
Arlyn has been touring up and down the West Coast year-round, but hopes to expand to the East Coast during the summer.
"My target audience is kids in school, college age," Arlyn said.
"She's great I'm surprised she's not more well known," Jami Medeiros said from the front row, "She has a lot of soul."
The OC student organizers' previous concerts and entertainment include Jonathon Kingam and local artists Cory Beahm and Aaron McFadden.
According to student organizers the concerts are not only entertainment but also an attempt at increasing student involvement in campus related activities.
According to Vice President of Associated Students of OC Nick Sangil, they plan to do a show each quarter.
While the goal of the shows is to encourage student involvement Sangil said, "I think it's just for fun mainly."
Luckily the lunch hour supplied a decent crowd in the BSC before dispersing and thinning out the crowd.
With yet another concert on the way for next quarter and The Young and The Indie in the spring, OC students have proved interest in creating a musical beat on campus.
