Members of the Olympic College Board of Trustees convened on Friday to respond to a new state resolution that authorizes OC, among other colleges, to waive partial tuition for flood victims.
The resolution, created by the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges, was adopted on Wednesday; waiving the operating fee portion of tuition for certain students who were impacted by the Dec. 3 storm and no longer have the resources to pay for school.
President Dr. David Mitchell and his cabinet discussed the fiscal impact the waiver would have on the college and how the process of disbursing the waiver would work.
Many questions were raised about how to determine what students were in the most need. In order to make this determination, Dr. Rick MacLennan, vice president of Student Services, and Joseph Koroma, director of Financial Aid, will be coordinating interviews for `each applicant.
"It really is a case by case interview," Mitchell said.
The application for the waiver will be available on OC's Web site on Wednesday. Students who are interested can contact the Financial Aid office via email at financialaid@olympic.edu for more information.
