coach Daryl Matheny said he is
proud of how well his team played
during the fall season and is looking
forward to the spring. Although
there was no women's team for the
fall, Matheny is still putting his
energy into finding girls for the
spring season.
During the fall season, the
men's golf team played in three
tournaments, beginning with the
Centralia invite on Sept. 30 and
Oct 1. The men's team fi nished
with an impressive team score of
626. Sophomore Josh white, who
shot a 79-75-154, led the Rangers.
On Oct. 22, the Rangers
competed in the Skagit Valley
Cardinal Classic Invitational. OC
fi nished with another impressive
team score of 628, led by J.D.
Rastovski.
He fi nished with two solid
rounds, totaling his combined
score to 153.
In their final tournament of the
fall season, the Rangers competed
in a NWAACC North region match
where they came out on top with a
single round team score of 306, just
edging out Douglas who finished
with a 309. Matt Strandberg tied for
second place overall with a score of
74 and J.D. Rastovski took fourth,
shooting a 76.
At the end of the fall season,
an impressive and hard-working
men's golf team finished in
first place of the NWAACC North
Division.
Despite the winter weather that
Washington is known for, Matheny
is preparing his players with
some off-season workouts at Gold
Mountain Golf Course.
"We do a little bit over the winter.
Hitting balls at the indoor center,"
Matheny said. He also said the
team is working harder compared
to last year.
"There is much more dedication,"
Matheny said. "We had the
talent last year, but just didn't
apply it."
Rastovski is also very excited
about how much more of a single
unit the players have become.
"We've become more of a team,"
he said. "We actually went bowling
and had lunch together."
When asked about how he plans
to prepare for the spring season,
Rastovski said, "I plan to do lots of
cardio and core workouts. I want to
work on strengthening my core so I
can hit the ball further."
While there was no women's
team this fall, Matheny has his
hopes up for putting together a
solid team for the spring season.
"It can be tough to get girls to
come to a two-year school to play
golf. We have a few in the area that
we are looking at," he said.
